How to Make Your Floral Bouquet Last Longer

Getting a fresh bouquet of flowers is EVERYTHING but having the flowers wilt within a few days? The absolute worst feeling.

So we're here to tell you all about how to preserve your blooms and get the most out of your gorgeous arrangement. And the best part? It's so easy! Just a few simple steps before you put your flowers in your favourite vase.

Here's what you do:

1) Peel off any bruised or browning parts.

This is essential in keeping your bouquet fresh for longer. When parts of the flower start to turn brown they can accelerate the browning in other flowers, meaning they can spoil a perfectly fresh bouquet. So first thing you do is gently remove any bits that aren't at their freshest so that you're only dealing with perfect blooms.

2) Fresh cut all stems on an angle.

Once your flowers are cleared of all brown parts, it's important to trim their stems on an angle to ensure that your blooms can get as much fresh water as they need. It's a crucial step in keeping your flowers hydrated - and it'll allow the bouquet to sit in the water-filled vase longer!

3) Use your flower food wisely.

You know that little packet of powder that comes with every bouquet you purchase? It's what feeds the flowers and keeps them looking beautiful longer. If your tendency is to dump the entire packet into a vase with ice cold water, then STOP. Once your flowers are cleared of all their old bits and the stems are freshly snipped, only add half a packet of flower food to a vase filled with room temperature water, and don't throw out the rest of the powder. In about 4-5 days, repeat steps 1 and 2, and mix the remaining flower food in with fresh room temperature water.

You should be able to get about 10 days of beautiful and healthy flowers if you just treat them right. So follow these steps, let us know if you have any questions, and enjoy your longer-lasting bouquets!
